Betty Staugler, PhD. is the NOAA Harmful Algal Bloom liaison to Florida SeaGrant, and a NOAA CoastWatch team member. She was among a team of researchers who were the first to identify several cyanobacteria in 2022; though it was just announced this March that one such species of algae - Sirenicapillaria stauglerae - has been named for her, in recognition of her contributions to the field.

Betty said "...it’s the pinnacle of my career to have something named after me." Her colleagues in CoastWatch are certainly thrilled for her as well.
