Ocean Color data affected by Eclipse

The total solar eclipse that stretched across much of the United States on April 8, 2024 can be seen in several optical satellite remote sensing products.  Near real-time data captured during the time of the eclipse may contain artifacts that are not masked during processing.  Please use caution when using data derived from optical measurements, such as chlorophyll-a,  Kd490, KdPAR,  etc.,  for analysis.   Science and delayed quality products should account for eclipse affected observations.  It is worthwhile to note that eclipses and other astonomical events happen fairly routinely across the globe but when they happen in the open ocean, they do not make the popular news.  We highlight this event as a courtesy especially to our US-based community.
